Lahore High Court Approves Imran Khan’s Protective Bail till 27th March in five cases

March 24, 2023

Earlier, the Lahore High Court (LHC) admitted to hearing a plea seeking the removal of Imran Khan as Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman.

The petition stated that after Imran’s disqualification from the NA-95 constituency following the Toshakhana reference, the person could not head a political party under the Political Parties Order and its rules.

The lawyer requested the court to order the ECP to remove Imran khan as PTI chairman and issue directives for the nomination of a new party head.

On 21st October, the ECP disqualified the former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman in the Toshakhana reference under Article 63(1)(p).

The ECP stated that Imran Khan submitted a false affidavit and was found involved in corrupt practices and ordered to register criminal cases against the PTI chairman. The ECP’s verdict further said that some of the gifts retained from Toshakhana were concealed in his assets.

Remember that, the Election Commission of Pakistan disqualified PTI Chairman Imran Khan in the Toshakhana case.

According to article 63, Imran khan has also been D seated from the seat of the National Assembly. PTI announces that they are going to challenge the decision in the High court.

The judgment was reserved over a month ago by the ECP. In August, National Assembly Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf sent the Toshakhana reference to the ECP seeking Imran Khan’s disqualification.
