Earlier, the Election commission of Pakistan (ECP) issued the schedule for by-elections on 31 vacant seats of the National Assembly (NA) that were acquired by PTI lawmakers.

According to a notification issued by the ECP, the party candidates are asked to submit nomination papers between the 10th to 14th of February, meanwhile, the initial list of the nominated candidates will be displayed by the 15th of February 2023.

The Election Commission of Pakistan will filter the candidates who filed the nomination papers on 18th February, meanwhile, the election symbols will be allotted to candidates on 2nd March 2023.

It is pertinent to mention here that former interior minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan asserted that he will contest the next general election as an independent candidate.

By-Poll Elections

The Election Commission of Pakistan on 27th January announced to hold of by-poll elections on 33 vacant National Assembly (NA) seats.

According to details, the ECP will hold by-polls on 33 NA seats by 16th March 2023, for which papers from nominees can be received by 6th to 8th February.

Remember that National Assembly seats were vacant earlier this month as Speaker Raja Parvez Ashraf accepted the resignations of 34 Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf  (PTI) lawmakers including Awami Muslim League chief Sheikh Rashid.

After their resignations were accepted by the National Assembly Speaker, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) also starts denotifying Members of the National Assembly (MNAs) of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.

It is to be pertinent that after Imran Khan announces his party returned to the National Assembly in order to bring a no-confidence vote against Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, In a Surprise move Speaker National Assembly start accepting resignations in order to restrict PTI from bringing a no-confidence motion in Assembly against PM Shehbaz Sharif.

The whole PTI resigned last year in April after the ouster of the Imran Khan government.
