A Lahore court on Friday dismissed the Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) case against creating “a rift between the general public and the state institutions”. Journalist Imran Riaz Khan and issued orders for his immediate release.
The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in the early hours of Thursday arrested Anchorperson and Journalist Imran Riaz Khan from Lahore Airport.

According to details Imran Riaz Khan was taken into custody by the FIA Cybercrime Wing at the Lahore Airport when he was just to depart to travel to UAE. Imran Riaz Khan was arrested at Lahore airport on charges of “Hate speech” and making a “violence-inducing statement”.
The FIA registered the first information report under sections 11 (electronic forgery), 20 (malicious code), and 24 (legal recognition of offenses committed in relation to information systems) of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes (Peca) 2016. Likewise, sections 131/109 (incitement to mutiny), 500 (punishment for defamation) and 505 (public mischief) of the Pakistan Penal Code have also been added to the FIR.
Imran Riaz Khan said he was informed by Airport Authorities that his name was “blacklisted” and he can’t leave the country. The anchorperson said his luggage was seized and was asked to wait.
The FIA cybercrime wing shifted Imran Riaz to Gulberg from Lahore airport. On Friday Imran Riaz presented in the Lahore court of Ghulam Murtaza Virk today amid tight security. He was represented by Barrister Mian Ali Ashfaq.
At today’s hearing, the prosecutor requested an extension in the suspect’s physical remand for 14 days.
The court while announcing its reserved verdict in the case on the 14-day remand request of the FIA, discharged Imran Riaz from the case and ordered to release him.
