Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to file a contempt of court petition against the federal government and Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in case of failure to comply with the Islamabad High Court (IHC) order related to holding the Local Government (LG) elections in Islamabad.
According to sources, the decision was taken during a Party meeting of PTI Islamabad leadership. The contempt petition will be filed in the Islamabad High Court. The PTI spokesperson said that the Chief Election commissioner would be responsible for not complying with the Islamabad High Court Order regarding conducting Local Government Elections in Federal Capital.
The PTI Senior leader Ali Nawaz Awan also held consultations with the legal team in order to prepare the contempt plea.
Moreover, Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) also prepared a contempt of court plea against the Election Commission Chairman, In accordance with the IHC order, the election commission was bound to start polling at 8:00 am today.
JI sources while talking to a private media channel told that they will approach the court if ECP fails to start polling today as per the court directive
Remember here one thing, The Islamabad High Court (IHC) ordered the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to hold local government polls in the federal capital as per the previously announced schedule BY 31st December.
Islamabad High Court Justice Arbab Mohammad Tahir issued the verdict on petitions filed by the PTI and Jamat-e-Islamic against the ECP verdict of postponing the Local bodies elections “for the time being”.
The court has nullified the ECP notification for delaying the local government elections, ordering it to hold the polls as per the schedule. It has also directed the federal government to provide assistance to the ECP to ensure the holding of LG elections on time.
Earlier this week, the Election commission of Pakistan postponed the elections in Islamabad owing to the federal government’s decision to increase the number of union councils (UCs).
