He said that the IHC order is not enforceable as the authorities cannot make immediate arrangements for 1,000 polling stations. Interior Minister Sanaullah said that threat alerts are already issued in the federal capital after the suicide attack in Islamabad I-10 Sector.

The interior minister said that at least four to five months will be needed to organize the Islamabad LG elections. He added that the General elections in the country will be held according to schedule in the month of October which needs eight to 10 months for its preparations.

In Today’s verdict, Islamabad High Court ordered the Election Commission of Pakistan to hold local government polls in the federal capital as per the previously announced schedule BY 31st December.

Islamabad High Court Justice Arbab Mohammad Tahir issued the verdict on petitions filed by the PTI and Jamat-e-Islamic against the ECP verdict of postponing the Local bodies elections “for the time being”.

The court has nullified the ECP notification for delaying the local government elections, ordering it to hold the polls as per the schedule.  It has also directed the federal government to provide assistance to the ECP to ensure the holding of LG elections on time.

Earlier this week, the Election commission of Pakistan postponed the elections in Islamabad owing to the federal government’s decision to increase the number of union councils (UCs).

Remember that The PML-N submits its application to IHC, and pleaded with the court to delay Local Government polls in the federal capital due to an increase in the number of union councils.

Keeping this in view ECP delays the Local government elections till further orders.
