General Michael Erik Kurilla, the commander of the US Central Command (Centcom), visited the military’s General Headquarters on Thursday, said Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) in a statement.
The visiting dignitary acknowledged Pakistan’s achievements in the fight against terrorism, flood relief, and contributions to regional peace. The visiting dignitary laid a floral wreath at the Martyrs’ Monument in honour of the Martyrs of Pakistan, said ISPR.
A smartly turned-out contingent of the Pakistan army presented a guard of honour to the visiting dignitary, the press release said.
The delegation will also visit Torkham today where it will be apprised of counter-terrorism and border management mechanisms in place along Pakistan-Afghanistan Border.
Later, Commander CENTCOM called on COAS followed by a delegation-level meeting where matters of mutual interest, regional stability, and security situation, defence and security cooperation particularly military-to-military ties were discussed during the meeting.
The delegation will also visit Torkham today (Thursday). He will be apprised of counter-terrorism and border management mechanisms in place along Pakistan-Afghanistan Border.
Last month, the US Centcom chief felicitated Gen Asim on assuming charge as the Pakistan Army Chief. Both top military officials have a previously established relationship from General Kurilla’s time as CENTCOM Chief of Staff. The two leaders also discussed US-Pakistan security cooperation efforts and strengthening the bilateral relationship.
Gen Munir assumed command of the Pakistan Army on November 29, replacing former COAS Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa.
