World Richest Man and new Owner of Twitter Elon Musk, announced on Monday that the social media platform is delaying the resumption of its blue check subscription service, deviating from his initial tentative timetable to do so.
“Holding off the relaunch of Blue Verified until there is high confidence of stopping impersonation,” Musk said in a tweet.
“Will probably use different color checks for organizations than individuals.”
Earlier, only verified accounts of prominent figures, including journalists, legislators, and well-known people could display the coveted blue check mark.
Earlier, new Twitter head Elon Musk said the site will charge $8 per month to verify users’ accounts, arguing the plan would upend the platform’s “current lords & peasants system” and create a new revenue stream for the company.
The announcement comes days after the world’s wealthiest man took sole control of the social media giant in a contentious $44 billion deal. “Power to the people! Blue for $8/month,” he tweeted, in reference to the platform’s famous blue checkmark that signals a verified, authentic account.
Due to the proliferation of bogus accounts, Twitter stopped the newly introduced $8 blue check membership service and indicated that it will resume by 29th November. Elon Musk noted in another tweet that the 1.6 million new users on Twitter during the last week were “another all-time high.”
As they adjust to the new leader, Twitter advertisers, including major corporations like General Motors, Mondelez International, and Volkswagen AG, have suspended their campaigns. According to estimates, hundreds of Twitter employees left their jobs last week after Elon Musk gave them until Thursday to sign up for “long hours at high intensity” or go.
In aftermath of the Twitter office’s temporary shutdown, users stormed Twitter with hilarious memes.
As per details, a message was delivered to Twitter employees to either work with high intensity and go hardcore or leave the company. Twitter temporarily shut down its office till 21st November informing the employees via email.
