The award, which is voted for by national team coaches and captains, journalists and also fans, recognizes a year in which the former Barcelona star crowned his glorious career by leading Argentina to victory at the World Cup.

Messi scored twice in an epic final in Doha as Argentina beat France on penalties despite Mbappe netting a hat-trick for Les Bleus in a remarkable 3-3 draw.

Messi’s Profile

Lionel Messi is an Argentine professional footballer who is widely regarded as one of the greatest players of all time. He was born on June 24, 1987, in Rosario, Argentina.

Messi began playing football at a young age and joined the youth team of Newell’s Old Boys, a local club in his hometown. He was soon discovered by FC Barcelona, one of the most successful football clubs in the world, and he moved to Spain to join their youth academy at the age of 13.

Messi made his debut for Barcelona’s first team in 2004 and quickly established himself as a key player, helping the team win numerous titles over the years, including ten La Liga titles, seven Copa del Rey titles, and four UEFA Champions League titles.

In addition to his club success, Messi has also had a remarkable international career, representing Argentina in multiple World Cups in the 2022 FIFA World Cup and Copa America tournaments. He has won numerous individual awards, including seven Ballon d’Or trophies, which are given to the best player in the world.

Messi is known for his incredible skill, speed, and agility on the pitch, as well as his ability to score goals from seemingly impossible angles. He is often compared to other football greats such as Pele, Diego Maradona, and Cristiano Ronaldo.
