Youm-e-Takbeer is being observed on Sunday with national zeal and fervour, which marks the historic day when Pakistan conducted successful nuclear tests in the hills of Chaghai, Balochistan 25 years ago.
On this day, Pakistan became the seventh nuclear power of the world with a demonstration of nuclear capabilities and the first in the Islamic world after conducting nuclear tests at Chaghai in Balochistan on 28th May 1998, reinforcing its writ in the region and restoring the balance of power.
The successful tests made Pakistan’s defense invincible.
As a response to India’s nuclear bomb tests on 11th and 13th May of the same year at Pokhran in the Rajasthan state of India.
Today in the morning, special prayers were offered for the progress and prosperity of Pakistan, the upholding of constitutional principles, and the eradication of terrorism.
On this auspicious day, President Alvi and Prime Minister Sharif of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan leaves special message by paying rich tribute to defenders of nation.
President Alvi Message
On the occassion, President Arif Alvi said that the acquisition of nuclear arms was “indeed a remarkable achievement” for Pakistan as it was inevitable to maintain the balance of power in the region.
Congratulating the nation for being a nuclear-armed country, he said that Pakistan conducted the nuclear tests in response to India’s declaration of possessing atomic warheads.
“The nation pays tribute to its renowned engineers and scientists who made Pakistan a nuclear power in a short span,” Alvi added.
Premier Sharif’s Message
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in his message on Youm-e-Takbeer said the nation would have to move ahead with the same spirit to attain economic sovereignty and self-dependence.
He expressed the determination that with unity, hard work and staunch faith, we would turn Pakistan into an economic power. He urged the nation to move ahead with the same spirit as manifested on Youm-e-Takbir to attain economic sovereignty and self-dependence.
The Prime Minister said twenty-five years ago today, the people of Pakistan announced the invincibility of their defence by detonating five nuclear explosions in response to India’s nuclear explosions.
The prime minister paid tribute to the patriotism of the then prime minister, Nawaz Sharif for conducting the nuclear tests despite all external pressures and ex-premier Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto who founded Pakistan’s nuclear programme.
The premier also lauded the services of Pakistan and Dr Abdul Qadir Khan and all scientists, engineers and individuals who contributed to achieving nuclear deterrence. He also expressed his gratitude to Saudi Arabia and other brotherly countries that had helped Pakistan amid the economic sanctions imposed due to the atomic programme.
Pakistan Armed Forces Message
Pakistan Armed forces media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) director general also highlighted the importance of the day, saying that the armed forces pay rich tribute to the “brilliant minds who conceived and achieved” nuclear deterrence despite challenges.
In a statement, the Inter Services Public Relations said entire Pakistani nation celebrates the Silver Jubilee of Youm-e-Takbir today and commemorates the remarkable achievement of establishing Credible Minimum Deterrence.
“We salute the scientists and engineers who turned the impossible into a reality. Long Live Pakistan,” the military’s media wing stated.
It said this achievement has reshaped the power dynamics in our region.
