President Dr. Arif Alvi conferred the coveted Nishan-e-Imtiaz (Military) award upon Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) General Sahir Shamshad Mirza and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir Shah.
President Arif Alvi decorated the CJCSC and the COAS with the Nishan-e-Imtiaz (military) awards in recognition of their meritorious services, at a special investiture ceremony held at the Aiwan-e-Sadr.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, National Assembly Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, federal ministers, and officers of the Armed forces attended the ceremony.
General Asim Munir assumed command as the new army chief (COAS) on November 29 after the retirement of Qamar Javed Bajwa, while General Sahir Shamshad Mirza replaced General Nadeem Raza as the new chairman of the joint chiefs of staff committee (CJCSC) on November 27.
The federal government chose two senior-most generals for the top slots.

The Outgoing Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa officially hand over the “Baton of Command” known as Command of Pakistan Army to newly appointed COAS General Asim Munir, who was chosen to lead the country’s sentinels by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on 24th November 2022.
The passing of the Baton from an outgoing COAS to an incoming one conveys the cardinal message to the troops the military leadership continues without a break in command.
With the change of command, Gen Munir has become the 17th army chief of the Pakistan Army. The baton was handed over to the new chief of army staff at a ceremony held at the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi.
