Suicide Blast inside a Mosque in Peshawar’s Police Lines area on Monday martyred 99 people while more than 221 others were injured as more bodies were recovered from the wreckage by the rescue teams, latest reports.
According to Security Officials’ reports, the suicide attacker was present in the front row during the prayers when he exploded himself, injuring dozens of faithful offering Zuhr prayers. The explosion took place around 1:40 pm. As a result of the Explosion the roof of the mosque caved in.
The latest reports are that a Rescue operation is still underway at the mosque site to retrieve the victims. Emergency has been imposed by the caretaker government of KP in Peshawar’s hospitals.
The Lady Reading Hospital has confirmed the martyrdom of 99 people and injuries to over 200 people. The administration of KPK Hospitals appealed for blood donations to treat the injured.
The caretaker CM of KPK formed an inquiry committee to identify the culprits who are responsible for this act.
Earlier day Many Videos and pictures circulating on social media show heart-wrenching scenes where injured in blood were shifted to local medical centers for first aid after the Peshawar mosque blast.
Emergency Imposed in KPK Hospitals
Keeping the whole situation in view Caretaker Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Muhammad Azam Khan imposed a medical emergency in all hospitals of Peshawar. The interim CM also instructed rescue organizations to speed up relief activities.
Meanwhile, the KPK health department also announced a “medical emergency” in the city in the wake of the Police Lines Peshawar bomb blast.
“All the doctors and support staff in the government health facilities including MTIs in district Peshawar are directed to remain on red alert to cope with the emergencies”
Condemnation of Attack
Political Personalities including President Arif Alvi, Premier Shehbaz Sharif, Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, former president, Asif Ali Zardari, former prime minister Imran Khan, and others showed anger and strongly condemned the terror attack.
Premier Shhebaz Sharif appealed to his party members and masses for Blood donation. In a tweet he wrote, I direct the Muslim League (N) workers to donate blood to save the lives of those injured in the suicide attack, especially the people with ‘O-Negative’ blood, students, and party workers are appealed to immediately. Reach Lady Reading Hospital, Peshawar, and contribute to saving precious human lives.
PTI Chairman Imran Khan also took to Twitter to condemn the suicide attack. “My prayers and condolences go to the victims’ families. It is imperative we improve our intelligence gathering and properly equip our police forces to combat the growing threat of terrorism,” said Khan.
Premier Shehbaz & COAS reaches Peshawar
Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif and COAS General Asim Munir reached Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s (KP) capital, Peshawar, following the suicide attack in Police Lines.
The Prime minister and COAS were accompanied by Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, and Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb. General Asim Munir and Shehbaz Sharif visit the Lady Reading Hospital where they meet the injured and ensure them full medical support from Government.
While Taking to Twitter, Federal Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb said that PM Shehbaz Sharif has summoned an emergency meeting to review the tragic incident, summoning the officials of all concerned institutions.
The meeting will review the KP’s law and order situation and ‘motives’, while the premier will be briefed on all aspects of the blast. “A preliminary investigation report on the incident will be presented in the meeting”, she added.
Security on High alert
After the Peshawar Mosque Suicide Attack, Government put the High Alert in sensitive cities of the country. Islamabad police have put the security of the federal capital on high alert.
According to details, the Islamabad Capital Territory police tightened security at the entry and exit points of the federal capital. Inspector General of Islamabad Dr. Akbar Nasir Khan issued orders to put security on high alert in the federal capital.
Police officials instructed the citizens of Islamabad to keep important documents with them including computerized national identity cards (CNICs) besides appealing to the residents to corporate with the on-duty cops during the checking process.
Snipers and bomb disposal squads have also been deployed at important points and buildings.
