“I felt very bad when PTI Chairman Imran Khan spoke against Gen (retd) Bajwa,” CM Punjab Pervaiz Elahi said adding that the former army chief was a “benefactor” and nothing should be said against benefactors.
CM Punjab Chaudhry Parvez Elahi said that he and his party will be the first ones to defend General (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa if anything further is said against the former Army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa.
The statement came during CM Punjab Parvez’s Elahi conversation with Private Media Channel Journalist when he referred to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan’s criticism of former Army chief Gen (retd)Qamar Javed Bajwa in Saturday’s address to party workers.
“Gen (retd) Bajwa gave many favors to him [Khan] therefore the favors shouldn’t be forgotten,” the Punjab CM reminded the PTI chief.
He said that they are allies of PTI instead of opponents but they can’t forget the favors of their “benefactors”.
He went on to say that Gen Bajwa frequently helped PTI during its government and criticism of him after his retirement was unfair. CM Punjab Pervaiz Elahi said that his party supported PTI in the Centre and Punjab despite reservations.
The Punjab Chief Minister said that Imran Khan did not allow former federal minister Moonis Elahi to sit with him but Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) backed Imran Khan.
“We agreed immediately when Imran Khan asked to dissolve [Punjab] Assembly,” he added.
Earlier PTI Chairman Imran Khan announced that Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assemblies will be dissolved by next Friday (23 December 2022). The former premier announced the decision while addressing the nation alongside the Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief ministers (CM), Pervaiz Elahi and Mahmood Khan, respectively.
Imran Khan thanked the two provincial chiefs for their cooperation with his party and said he had consulted PTI’s lawyers about the move, adding that the Constitution did not allow elections to be delayed beyond 90 days of an assembly’s dissolution.
Addressing a public gathering at the Liberty Chowk in Lahore, he thanked Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Parvez Elahi and KP CM Mahmood Khan for backing his decision. He said, “After disbanding the assemblies, we will start preparing for new elections”.
