Former President General (retd) Pervez Musharraf’s body will be moved to Pakistan today from the United Arab Emirates, where he passed away on Sunday at the age of 79 after a prolonged illness.
The remains of the former Army chief were to be flown to Pakistan at 11:30 am Pakistan time. However, diplomatic sources claimed that there has been a delay and the special jet will leave for Pakistan at 7 pm.
The Pakistani embassy in the UAE had issued a no objection certificate (NOC) to bring back the former President and military ruler body to Pakistan at the request of his family.
Former military leader’s wife Sehba Musharraf, son Bilal and daughter Ayla will bring the deceased’s body to Pakistan. The former President’s body is kept in the mortuary of a hospital for now.
Former President and Chief General (retd) Pervez Musharraf passed away in Dubai at the age of 79. The former President was under the treatment for amyloidosis at American Hospital Dubai.
Pervez Musharraf to be buried in Karachi
Pervez Musharraf’s family had filed an application in the Pakistani consulate in Dubai to shift the former military leader’s body to Pakistan.
The former president will be buried in a Karachi Graveyard. Musarraf’s family formally approached Pakistan’s consulate in Dubai seeking permission to shift the mortal remains of Musharraf to Pakistan.
It is pertinent to mention here that the former president’s mother was buried in Dubai while his father was laid to rest in Karachi. The diplomatic officials said, adding that the special plane carrying the body of the former Army chief will land in Rawalpindi.
Earlier, Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch confirmed that they were facilitating the transportation of the mortal remains of the former army chief.
“Our missions in the UAE are in contact with the family and are facilitating the transportation of the mortal remains,” she added.
Condolences
Pakistan Army Military Media Wing ISPR expressed heartfelt condolences over the death of the former army chief. “May Allah bless the departed soul and give strength to the bereaved family”.
Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani also expressed deep sorrow over the former president’s death.
PTI leader and former information minister Fawad Chaudhry said Musharraf was a “great person” whose ideology was to always keep Pakistan first.
Pervez Musharraf
Pervez Musharraf was Born on 11 August 1943, in Delhi, British India after Independence his family moved to Karachi in 1947. Pervez Musharraf got his commission from the Pakistan Military Academy Kakul on 19th April 1961. He joined the Pakistan Army in 1964 and was a graduate of the Army Staff and Command College, Quetta.
Musharraf took over charge as the chief of army staff (COAS) in 1998. A year later on 12 October 1999, Gen (retd) Musharraf take over the Power and become the President of Pakistan after prime minister Nawaz Sharif tried to dismiss him as army chief.
The Former Military ruler served as the president of Pakistan from 2001 to 2008. Musharraf resigned as the president on 18th August 2008 after a movement led by the political parties.
Gen Musharraf was sentenced to death by a special court on 17th December 2019, under Article 6 of the Constitution. A case of high treason was filed against him during Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) tenure.
Gen Musharraf was present in the court on 31st March 2016, when he was indicted on the charges of suspending the Constitution.
In March 2016 he flew out of Dubai due to his illness and did not return to Pakistan after leaving the country.
