Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir held a meeting with Saudi Arabia’s Chief of the General Staff Lt. Gen. Fayyadh Al-Ruwaili during his ongoing Saudi Arabia visit.
During the meeting, Pakistan-Saudi relations in the defense and Military sectors were reviewed while various matters of mutual interest and ongoing security situation in the region came under discussion.
Moreover, the Army chief also met Commander of the Royal Saudi Land Forces Lieutenant General Fahd Bin Abdullah Mohammed Al-Mutair in which they discussed matters of mutual interest.
Earlier the Army Chief General Syed Asim Munir reached Saudi Arabia on his first official foreign visit after taking charge as COAS, said Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) in a statement.
According to the Pak Army’s media wing, the COAS is on an official visit to Saudi Arabia and UAE from 4th January to 10th January 2023.
During his visit, the COAS will be meeting the senior leadership of both brotherly countries to discuss matters of mutual interest, military-to-military cooperation, and bilateral relations focusing on security-related subjects.
Earlier the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) said that COAS Asim Munir met with Defence Minister Khalid bin Salman in Riyadh where the two discussed matters of mutual interest.
At the outset of the meeting, the Saudi minister congratulated Gen Asim Munir on his appointment as the new army chief.
“During the meeting, they emphasized the strength and durability of bilateral relations between the two fraternal countries, and discussed military and defense cooperation, and ways to support and enhance them, in addition to discussing the most important regional and international issues of common interest”
Later, Saudi Defence Minister Khalid Bin Salman also shared his picture with the visiting Pakistan army chief.
“We emphasized the strategic partnership between our brotherly countries, reviewed the bilateral military and defense relations, and discussed ways of strengthening our cooperation,” he tweeted.
Remember that this is the first official visit of COAS since he took charge as the army chief.
