Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Najam Sethi said that we appoint Shahid Afridi as a chief selector to take “bold decisions.”
“He is the sort of person we want in the selection committee who can take bold decisions,” Sethi said in an interview on Monday.
The newly appointed chairman, who took the charge two weeks ago, had immediately made big changes including appointing the former star all-rounder as chairman of the PCB selection committee.
Najam Sethi praises Shahid Afridi’s straightforward attitude, calling him a “bold and beautiful” player.
“He is someone to experiment with new talent, to realize where old is still gold and I think that was missing in this team which is why we had four defeats in a row in Test matches,” he said.
Earlier Chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Najam Sethi said that he will not stop Mohammad Amir if the former cricketer wants to make a comeback to international cricket.
“I will not stop Mohammad Amir if he wants to make himself available to play for Pakistan again,” said Sethi in an interview with Arab News on Monday.
The newly appointed PCB chairman said he supported Amir’s return to the national team. “A player who has admitted his guilt, helped the ICC to stop match-fixing and corruption, and then paid a five-year penalty for being outside of cricket deserves to come back,” he said.
The news of the fast bowler’s return to the National Academy become headlines after the ousting of previous PCB Chairman Ramiz Raja. “Mohammad Amir thinks he is not dealt fairly by the previous regime of PCB, including selection committee and chairman Ramiz Raja,” Sethi said.
The 74-year-old Chairman said Amir had only made himself unavailable for selection due to differences with the previous PCB administration.
