Corps Commander Bahawalpur Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed one of the six names apparently shortlisted for the post of the Chief of Army Staff has revealed plans for early retirement.
According to sources, Lt Gen Faiz Hammed has decided to take early retirement. The news comes after the Federal Government appointed General Syed Asim Munir as Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and General Sahir Shamshad Mirza as Chief of Joint Staff for the next three years.
Earlier Lt General Azhar Abbas, who is also shortlisted for the post of Army Chief currently serving as the Chief of General Staff (CGS) also decided to seek early retirement.
Lt General Abbas is officially set to retire on 27th April 2023 next year while Lt General Hameed is scheduled to retire on 30th April 2023. Lt Gen Hameed’s name was figured in the list of the names of six top lieutenant generals in consideration for the appointments of top military posts.
Other names in the list included Lt Gen Asim Munir, Lt Gen Sahir Shamshad Mirza, Lt Gen Azhar Abbas, Lt Gen Nauman Mehmood, Lt Gen Faiz Hamid, and Lt Gen Mohammad Amir.
On 24th November Federal Government announced that General Asim Munir will be next COAS of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. The official confirms the news after President signed the summary to appoint Gen Asim Munir as the new COAS.
Remember that COAS Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa’s six years tenure come to end and he is going to retire by 29th November 2022. The change of Command ceremony will be held at GHQ Rawalpindi where COAS Gen Bajwa officially hands over the Command of the Pakistan Army to newly appointed COAS General Asim Munir.
