According to reports, campaigns launched by african social media activists demanded the return of diamonds in the possession of the British royal family to their respective countries. The campaign was launched by social media users days after the death of Queen Elizabeth on 8th September.
Activists from South Africa have also joined the campaign, seeking the return of the Great Star diamond, the largest known clear-cut gem.
The great Star of Africa, also known as Cullinan was discovered during mining in South Africa in 1905.
According to a CNN report, It was handed over to the British royal family by the colonial rulers and is currently mounted in a royal scepter belonging to Queen.
According to the latest reports, an online petition has been launched the seeking return of the diamond that has been signed by thousands of people.
