Pakistani pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi and T20I vice-captain Shadab Khan were included among nine players, shortlisted by the International Cricket Council for the T20 World Cup Player of the Tournament award.
According to the details, the ICC shortlisted nine exceptional performers from Pakistan, India, England, Sri Lanka, and Zimbabwe.
Shadab Khan and Shaheen Afridi are the highest wicket-taker for Pakistan in the ongoing tournament. Both players won a player of the match award each in the mega event thus far.
ICC stated in the press release that “Shadab Khan has been one of Pakistan’s star performers in their run to the final of the tournament, starring with both bat and ball,”
“He has been an impactful performer, picking up vital wickets in the middle overs while also playing the role of power-hitter in the middle order brilliantly,” the statement added. The cricket governing body further heaped praises on the Pakistan ace pacer Shaheen, who made an impressive comeback despite coming out of a knee injury.
“Shaheen Afridi has slowly but surely regained his groove in the tournament, being back to his best in the last couple of games,” ICC stated.
Besides Shaheen Shah Afridi and Shadab khan, the ICC shortlisted Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav from India, Sam Curran, Alex Hales and Jos Buttler from England, Wanindu Hasarange de Silva from Sri Lanka and Sikandar Raza from Zimbabwe.
