Suggestions are being made to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Rana Sanaullah, and the leadership of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) by “certain elements” to convince Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa to continue as the head of the Armed forces Pakistan.
According to the sources, a suggestion was given to the PDM government to give an extension to the incumbent Army chief, and dissolve the government so that an interim government could form which would then continue for six to seven months.
However, it has been reported that the party has said “no” to these options. Primer Shehbaz and his senior party leadership insist on completing the term of the present assemblies and holding the next elections by October-November 2023.
Remember that COAS Bajwa is going to retire from his office at the end of November, a time frame that he has reportedly verbally confirmed multiple times. Already the names of the top 6 Generals have been sent to Prime Minister for the next COAS appointment.

It was also reported a few weeks ago that PTI Chief Imran Khan seeking the continuation of the Army chief until the new elections are called and in this regard also trying to contact the government.
Few months ago In an interview with a private media channel, Imran Khan suggested government that COAS GenBajwa, be given an extension in his tenure of service.
Talking about the possibility of appointing a new Army Chief, Imran Khan said, “There can be a provision in relevance to the selection of the new COAS. When the next government comes, they can appoint a new COAS.”
Here it is pertinent to mention that COAS General Bajwa already announces that he is not seeking a further extension, he is going to retire as per his date.
