Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi supports his son Moonis Elahi’s statement that former army chief Gen Bajwa suggested that his PML-Q party should support PTI during the opposition’s no-confidence motion against Imran Khan in March this year.

In an interview with a local TV channel on Sunday, CMPunjab Pervaiz Elahi said COAS Gen Bajwa told him that going with Imran was a better option after he shared his reservations about joining the PDM alliance as he “did not trust the Sharif family”.

CM Punjab Pervaiz Elahi said he was wary of accepting the then opposition led by the Sharif family’s offer to become Punjab chief minister in return for supporting the no-trust motion against Imran Khan.

“I knew that they [Sharif] would not let me continue [as chief minister] as they have betrayed me in the past,” he remarked.

The PML-Q leader said his son Moonis played a major role in convincing him to support PTI instead of joining the Pakistan Democratic Movement alliance. He also said that Army chief, Gen (retd) Bajwa showed “him the right path” to support PTI. Earlier Pakistan Muslim League-Q (PMLQ) leader Moonis Elahi said on Thursday that former Chief of the Army Staff Gen (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa had advised them to stand with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.

Gen Bajwa advise us to Support PTI Imran Khan – Monnis Elahi

In an interview with a private TV channel, the son of Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi said that they had offers from both the camps (PDM and PTI) when the situation was critical in the wake of the no-confidence motion against former prime minister Imran Khan but General (retd) Bajwa advised them to support the PTI.

Monnis Elahi said “Certain elements are busy on social media taking over Bajwa Sahib without any reason. This is the same Bajwa who changed the course of rivers for the PTI. Then he [Bajwa] was right, but now he is not. I’ve got a total disagreement with those who are now talking against him,”

“When he was giving you all-out support, he was right,” the PML-Q MNA said, wondering if Bajwa had now become a traitor for them.

“I’ve asked PTI office-senior leader to sit with me on a TV show and prove that he is a traitor, and I will tell you exactly what he [Bajwa] has done for you.”

Moonis said that there was no doubt that former COAS Bajwa fully supported the PTI, but when he withdrew his support, he had become a bad person. “This is a bad example and I have a disagreement with them on it. He [Gen Bajwa] was never against the PTI,” Moonis added.

“Had he [ Gen Bajwa] been against them [PTI] at that juncture, he just had to give a signal, and we would have been sitting with them [PDM],” Moonis said.

The PMLQ leader added that his inclination was with the PTI and he also talked to his father on the matter.
